Meaning & Purpose : Analysis a media product which made Marvel achieve a great success in the worldwide by making movie. In this section, I will choose a movie from Marvel company. Analysis the product and investigate how the movie was made behind the scene. Fully understand of the idea and detail of green screen and CGI etc.
The movie I have chosen from Marvel Studio is a movie called " The Avengers ".It is the most popular movie that came out from Marvel.
Purpose : The purpose of the movie is very clear. Marvel want to create a movie which will entertain the audience , earn a positive reputation for the audience , promote their company & earn profit from the audience. The movie was promoted all over the world and had a very great box office with $1.52 billion. More importantly most audiences had a very positive feedback about this movie on internet.
Genre : The Avengers is a american superheroes movie which was from Marvel Studio. It is mainly an action movie and also some comedy scene in it, which carry out a relax atmosphere to the audience while they are too excited in the action scene of the movie. Therefore Marvel had succeed to entertain the audience.
Style : To entertain the audience, Marvel had chose the crew very carefully. I would like to talk about my favourite character in the movie - Iron Man. The actor of Iron Man is Robert Downey Jr. and he is one of my favourite character from all the crew member, as he had acted serval movies in the past such as Due Date , Chef etc. All of those movie are comedy film, and I found that is very entertaining to me. Therefore when Marvel had chose Robert Downey Jr. to act as a superhero in the movie. His main function is to create a humour scene and entertain the audience. Also the style of the movie is using very futuristic custom to attract the attention of the audience, which give an impression of all superhero are powerful and non-odarinary to others.
Form & Content : The form of this media I have chosen is a Movie / Film . The movie is about group of aliens are coming to the earth and take over the whole world." The avengers " is a group of superheroes which against and fight back to the aliens.This movie can also be classified as a disaster movie as the places in the film was damaged by the aliens. The background of the movie were mainly set up in New York. In this movie , it had used range of different camera angle and music. It had used angle like , low angle , high angle , long shot , medium long shot , medium close up and human eyes. In this movie,medium long shot had been used a lot as it gave audience more chance to have a full view of the superheroes dressing. The music in the movie was all created by Marvel - Alan Silverstri. He had been awarded by directing music in serval movie. In The Avenger, the music he had created was very powerful and emotional. In which, it is very suitable and for this type of movie.

Marvel Studio is an american which create media film product only.All the movie were from marvel comics between 60s - 90s.Marvel studio had created lots of great movie series such as " Iron Man " , " Thor " , " Captain America " , " Hulk ".Also there were 4 movies that had a top 10 box office movie in the worldwide.
Iron Man :
An American billionaire playboy, business magnate, and ingenious engineer, Tony Stark suffers a severe chest injury during a kidnapping in which his captors attempt to force him to build a weapon of mass destruction. He instead creates a powered suit of armor to save his life and escape captivity.
Later, Stark augments his suit with weapons and other technological devices he designed through his company, Stark Industries. He uses the suit and successive versions to protect the world as Iron Man, while at first concealing his true identity. Initially, Iron Man was a vehicle for Stan Lee to explore Cold War themes, particularly the role of American technology and business in the fight against communism.Subsequent re-imaginings of Iron Man have transitioned from Cold War themes to contemporary concerns, such as corporate crime and terrorism.
Captain America :
Captain America wears a costume that bears an American flag motif, and is armed with a nearly indestructible shield that he throws at foes. The character is usually depicted as the alter ego of Steve Rogers, a frail young man enhanced to the peak of human perfection by an experimental serum to aid the United States government's imminent efforts in World War II. Near the end of the war, he was
trapped in ice and survived in suspended animation until he was revived in the present day. Although Captain America often struggles to maintain his ideals as a man out of his time with its modern realities, he remains a highly respected figure in his community which includes becoming the long-time leader of the Avengers.
Hulk :The Hulk is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, and first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #1 (May 1962). Throughout his comic book appearances, the Hulk is portrayed as a large green humanoid that possesses superhuman strength and invulnerability, attributes that grow more potent the angrier he becomes. Hulk is the alter ego of Bruce Banner, a socially withdrawn and emotionally reserved physicist who physically transforms into the Hulk under emotional stress and other specific circumstances at will or against it; these involuntary transformations lead to many complications in
Banner's life. When transformed, the Hulk often acts as a dissociated personality separate from Banner. Over the decades of Hulk stories, the Hulk has been represented with several personalities based on Hulk and Banner's fractured psyche, ranging from mindless savage to brilliant warrior, and Banner has taken control of the Hulk's form on occasion. Thor :
Thor is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character, based on the Norse mythological deity of the same name, is the Asgardian god of thunder and possesses the enchanted hammer Mjolnir, which grants him the ability of flight and weather manipulation amongst his other superhuman attributes.Debuting in the Silver Age of Comic Books, the character first appeared in Journey into Mystery #83 (Aug. 1962) and was created by editor-plotter Stan Lee, scripter Larry Lieber, and penciller-plotter Jack Kirby. He has starred in several ongoing series and limited series, and is a founding member of the superhero team the Avengers, appearing in each volume of that series. Hawkeye :
Hawkeye is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character first appeared as a villain in Tales of Suspense and later joined the Avengers in
Avengers. He has been a prominent member of the team ever since. He was also ranked at #44 on IGN's Top 100 Comic Book Heroes list.

Production Process :
As this movie is not a computer - animated movie.Most of the special effect like, explosive , movement of aliens , dressing of superheroes has to be use green screen.
This video I had found in Youtube explain the visual effects of how the movie is made during the whole filming process of "The Avengers".How the street and character dressing is been done in the movie by using only computer - generated imagery in different scene.

Scene 1
Cinematography : Here they have used a high angle camera shot which looks the characters weak and small compare to their enemy. Also the camera had used a circle pan effect which give a chance of audience to have a close look of the superheroes. In this scene, the crew had used a high key lighting as the background was outdoor and daytime. It can show the full detail of the props of the character to the audience.
Content : In this scene , it was showing more and more enemy coming to the city and attack The Avengers.It was load of enemy and more than The Avengers expect , they were all tired and weak.
Music : The melody of the music was very slow.It gives a audience of a feeling of some bad is going to happen.The music are following the flow of scene changing which audience can follow the story easily.Also the volume of the music was quite loud and cover the actual background sound.
Mise - en scène : All the superheroes dress up really fancy and one of it wear a cape on.Cape is the best impression to audience what a superhero should have.Also every characters dress up in a battle suit ready for a big fight.It is most audience want to see in the movie is their own dressing.
Editting : In this scene , it had used a cross cutting which is parallel to the next scene when both alien and superheroes showed up. It produced a climax atmosphere to the movie especially this scene is in the middle of the fight.
Scene 2
Cinematography : It had used a low angle camera shot which show the superheroes extremely powerful. There is no camera movement which audience can have a full look of the characters for a longer time. In the scene, it had used a medium key light which create a slightly dark face on each character, which make the character looks more mystery.
Content : This scene was at the very end of the movie which killed and destroyed all the enemy and the boss was the remain person of the enemy group.
Music : The music was the theme song of the movie.It was very grand , glamorous and powerful which also a great music to sum up the whole movie at the end.
Mise - en scène : Also there are light coming out from the middle of person which slightly darken the characters.This will cause audience think the characters are all mystery , strong & powerful.The dressing of the character is very futuristic and which give a very special looking to the audience.
Editing : In this scene , it had used a long dissolve effect to sum up the whole movie. It had a very simple effect to connect to the next scene Using a dissolve is very great for moving to the next location in the movie.
Scene 3
Cinematography : it had use a medium close up shot here which is a common way to present 2 person conversation.Camera is not moving which allow audience to focus to the conversation. High key light is also been used in the scene, because to allow audience have a full close detail to the facial expression of the actor to provide more emotion to the conversation to audience.
Content : Although it was a fighting and superheroes movie,there is still a funny joke and conversation appear in the movie.It was about Loki - the enemy is trying to threat a member of Avengers with a weapon ,however the weapon doesn't seem to work.
Music : There is no background music in this scene, only pure conversation of this two person.No background music which allow audience to listen and follow the funny conversation and laugh.
Mise - en scène : The dressing of those two characters were very simple however the custom of the weapon look very futuristic. It gives an high - tech impression of the audience in the whole movie.As the weapon is a main thing which cause the audience attention and laugh.The weapon is been place in the middle of the screen which all audience can look straight in the middle.Also there is no camera movement which allow audience have all the attention in the middle of the weapon.
Editting : In this scene, there is no editing between clips as the the camera is been placed still without moving. All the conversation is in one goal of shot. Placing the camera still will be able to let audience to focus on the conversation rather than the graphic at the background.
Scene 4
Cinematography : In this scene,it had use a medium close up shot and over shoulder shot to film a conversation. Over shoulder shot is often been use in a conversation which help audience place their character setting. Medium low key light is been used here as in this scene a sub - character was passed away and using this key light can carry out a sad emotion to the audience.
Content : In this scene,woman - " Black widow'' and man - "Hawk eye" were having a conversation about fighting back to the enemy.
Music : There is no background music in this scene, only pure voice of this two person.No background music which allow audience to listen carefully to the conversation.
Mise - en scène : the environment was dim and dark.The character were all sad and tired.It also build up the emotion of the audience. The custom of the character is been dressed very casual.
Editting : In this scene, it had used a 180 degree rule cont. cutting. It can orientate the viewer to establish the placement of the character. Two or more camera were placed at the back of the character to capture them while the conversation.
Analysis of a short movie clip
Here I would like to show a short scene of the movie that I really like.It is about all superheroes gather all around and discuss the best way to destroy and defend from the enemy.All the ability of the superheroes can be seen in just a short clip.In this clip , medium close up shot , low angle camera shot & high angle camera shot is mainly use in this clip.There were a theme song playing when " Captain America" were giving out jobs to each superheroes,the music feels grand and powerful which is very suitable to be use at the part.
